Microsoft Silverlight unit test framework now on MSDN Code Gallery

The Silverlight unit test framework’s binaries are now available for download direct from the MSDN Code Gallery. If you already have the test framework libraries, there’s no need to download them again: the bits haven’t changed… yet.

The current release targets Silverlight 2 Beta 2. Along with the binaries, there’s also a set of Visual Studio project and item templates that make it easy to create test projects and test classes for Visual Basic and Visual C#.

Beta 2 test framework refresh in the works

beta2refresh I’m still working hard to make sure that some of the most-requested customer features are made available, so expect another release. Once the refresh bits go out, I’ll enable the work item tracking feature of Code Gallery.

Some of the simple, yet helpful improvements in the pipeline:

  • Complete support for Silverlight 2 Beta 2 without needing to cast the CreateTestPage result to a UIElement
  • Bug fixes
  • Test run progress bar
  • Easier to discover API for test developers (fewer namespaces)
  • Neat tag and “tag expression” implementation by Ted Glaza that makes it easy for developers to select just the tests that are important to run
  • Improved framework and test harness settings design by Jad Baydoun

    Thanks Jeff for getting the Silverlight UT code posted to MSDN. We appreciate the work that’s going into this testing framework! Looking forward to the next release.

    Awesome Jeff,

    But why Google Code and not Codeplex? Licensing reasons? More convenient/easier to drop it to MSDN?

    Haven’t had a chance to look at the code yet, but looking forward to have a look :)
